Team Blonde members and team Brunette members gathered together to toast their upcoming charity football game on November 14th, which will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The fundraiser also marked the launch of Power Players Club, Washington’s first female-owned and operated promotions company. And in addition to mingling with D.C.’s top philanthropic socialites, guests enjoyed an open champagne bar from 7-8 pm, door prizes, beats by DJ Manifesto, and the vision of a diamond-studded “Fantasy Football Cake” valued at $30,000. This fundraiser was one for the record books.

A crowd gathered last Saturday, November 8th, to see what the answer would be. And this was no powder puff! Aggressive athletes took to the turf at the 4th Annual Blondes vs. Brunettes charity football game. For three years, the Brunettes had dominated the tournament. An intense rivalry, despite hair ribbons and other girly frills, the players sported jerseys with such serious nicknames as Taryn Fielder’s ‘Taryn-it-Up.’ Tommy McFly of the Jack Diamond Morning Show on 107.3 FM and Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet announced the day’s tough play.

That really is the name of the event, we’re not just being superficial and sexist. The girls wrestled for the pigskin on Francis Field on N Street to raise money to tackle Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter (long name, have to take a breath) has raised over $300,000 since 2005. Blonde’s 2008 Miss DC Kate Grinold stands with Brunette’s 2006 Miss DC Kate Michael. Kate Grinold is dancing daily in preparation for Miss America, and Kate Michael, who already competed two years ago, was willing to give her some pointers while we snapped photos. Once we walked away, it was back to the age old rivalry.

It’s that time of year again. My alma mater Penn State (who has kind of a goofy schedule this year, but I will get back up for a game), our own Redskins, and your favorite college and pro teams aren’t the only ones with their eyes on the pigskin. Blondes vs. Brunettes returns for our Washington ladies who since 2005, have done their part in tackling (pun intended) the degenerative disease of Alzheimer’s. By way of individual fundraising and ticket sales to the main flag football event, these young women have raised close to $150k for the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter. The money donated goes to the Chapter’s services and programs, which are provided at no or low cost to area residents. Visit Pamela’s Punch
